This is something you need to be asking your doctor! Not a bunch of strangers!!!! Jeez!
Antidepressants are generally safe during pregnancy, however many women (understandably so) want to be completely safe and opt not to take them. I have bipolar and was told to stop my meds 2 to 3 months before trying to get pregnant. Well, I got pregnant unexpectedly and stopped right when I found out I was pregnant – at about 3 1/2 weeks. My OB said it was very unlikely (though not 100%) that the medications did any damage.
Jess is wrong: Here are the classifications.

Ask your doctor
It takes about a good month before they completely leave your system. And I completely disagree with the first comment. Anti-depressants are NOT good during pregnancy! Prozac is one of the safest ones and it is still a class C or D drug. Get off of them but do it ONLY under your doctors supervision. Take it from me, unless you want to spend the night being poked at in the ER, do it right!
I’m not sure of the actual recommendations…however, I went through a severe bout of depression during my second trimester and had to be on meds for 2 months, then I felt secure to go off of them. The doctor can help with what meds are safe and they prescribe them if they fear your depression and poor health will cause more harm to the baby than meds alone. I have a perfectly healthy happy baby, and no more depression at that! I didn’t even get post partum! The one thing I know doctors warn about is babies being jittery after birth if the mothers were on meds. I was off them long enough before labor, but she was fine and had no side effects nonetheless.
Also, to those who have negative comments about this…they obviously have never dealt with clinical depression or a similar disorder. I believe they should keep their closed minded views to themselves, and true that a doctor would know best. It’s better/worse depending on the trimester as well. I went off of my meds as soon as I possibly could without having to worry about hurting myself, which would result in no baby either. Lastly, it’s always best to do without meds if you can, but you need to be safe to have a baby safely. Good luck!
Most antidepressants are safe to take while pregnant. My doctor actually recommended that I take them while pregnant to avoid getting more depressed during that time. I weaned myself off them before getting pregnant again though as I just didnt like the idea and didnt want to be on them anymore anyway. I took them for 9 months (til my daughter was 20 months old) and I am ok without them now.
yes it. but you can get better for you
when i found out i was pregnant i was on meds…i went to the doctor and he said everything was fine but it depends on what type of meds you are taking because some can hurt babies…
